Minimal setup (Text only & standalone)

Hi there, I'm new to SooperLooper... I trying to setup a laptop looper to replace my Digitech Jamman.
I plan to use USB Presonus audio interface (because I own one and because my laptop does not provide a firewire connector) and two midi controllers
Because I want the system to stay very small, at least the smaller it can, I didn't choosed to install a graphic environnement. So I've setup a Fedora 12, text only installation (no xorg-server)
SooperLooper and jack audio are installed.

My goal is to run SooperLooper AND linuxsampler at the same time, SooperLooper will be driven by a beringher FCB 1010 and LinuxSampler by a midi pad (for the drum guy) but for the moment I only focuse on SooperLooper.

My questions are :
- in standalone mode, if I write myself a midi binding file, do I need anything else to start using the software ?
- what additionnal step must be done to configure an USB audio device ?

After more playing around...it's just a problem with continuous sounds...if I record a loop with a sequence of notes as would be the common use...it works good.

Yes, it is related. When the sooperlooper engine is started by slgui it is passed as a cmdline parameter the location of the midi bindings. You can manually do that when you start sooperlooper by running it like:
sooperlooper -m ~/.sooperlooper/default_midi.slb

Check the other options for other items you may want (default num loops, channels, max time, etc) with sooperlooper --help

If you create a good session that you like to use as a starting point use the '-L' option to load that.

I think that'd be fine. At this point in the game, I'm only using one loop at a time--just real simple stuff (I'm hoping to get more into serious looping later, but I'm trying not to bite off more than I chew from a musical/performance perspective).

If I start the slgui right off the bat it does the same thing... interface pops up for bout 15 seconds (no loops, just controls) then gives me error message saying "couldn't start engine; check hostname". The only difference between this and starting sooplerlooper first is that it doesn't have a process to kill before failing.

i have no experience with TouchOSC but long time ago when i was playing with osc and sooperlooper i used osc message like this:
/sl/0/set wet 0.54

and it worked 'wet' is string and 0.54 floating number.

i remember that getting/setting velocity with the smooth and right positioning of the slider in slgui was not the easiest task... i needed to look at the sooperlooper code... it's probably because dealing with volume up/down in decibels is not linear (as usually slider movement is).. for example: "http://forums.sun.com/thread.jspa?threadID=5410077"

in python i ended up with these two formulas:

Code:: velocityget = (((6.0 * math.log(velocity)/math.log(2.)+198)/198.)**8) * 32

## 32 is just here coz i had 32 discret units to show the velocity in my frontend

Code:: velocityset = 2.** ((math.sqrt(math.sqrt(math.sqrt(value)))*198.-198)/6.)

## value was floating number in between 0-1

M-audio routing to headphones

Hi there
I'm not sure if anyone can help me with a routing issue.
I'm using an M-Audio Firewire 410 interface for audio and MIDI with a mac powerbook.
I've got Jack routing audio successfully from SL to the interface, but there's one issue:
Jack shows 10 playback receive ports - 8 line outputs and 2 s/pdifs. I can't seem to route to my headphone output!
Is there a trick?

PS. Thanks for the post showing how to set M-Audio as the output in Jack's preferences - it's not at all obvious to a beginner!

Here is a Live session and the SL session and some captured loops....
I can reliably cause the sound artifact by pressing Live's stop button 2 or 3 times...one press does not stop SL completely as some loops keep playing... but I think you will see for yourself!
Again thanks, and I don't expect blood for the 62.00 I sent, but I have been chasing the perfect looper for quite sometime and SL is almost there!

or a way to Reset SL with a keyboard binding..

Here is an issue that I ran into using notes on the fcb1010 without the uno upgrade and also having a Yamaha VL70-m in the midi path. I would get a note played on every midi command that I would send, even though I did not have anything but the note activated on the 10 pedals that i setup for use on sooperlooper. I had another 10 pedals setup for use of my VL70-m but both should have been exclusive to the actual unit.

Bank 0 was setup to control the VL70-M using program changes
Bank 1 was setup to control sooperlooper using notes

But despite this I would sometimes get a program change (on my VL70-m) on Bank1 (footpedal 0/10), and I would get a note played by whatever instrument was active on the VL70-m while on Bank 1 (all pedals I think)

Would the uno chip resolve this issue? Is this a MIDI routing issue and if so how should I route? I have a 2x2 port midiman usb powered midi interface.

This is the session I use to recreate the crash. To this session I add a 4th loop and click on the "sync" mark before I start recording. BTW, I tried to upload the file, but your forum program would not allow a file with the ext .slsess to upload.

Hello.

I'm using SL since yesterday. I understood how it works but I can't make it recognize my midi keyboard. My midi keyboard (Yamaha Clavinova clp 120) is working well with ZynAddSubFx Software Synthetizer but not with SL. I right click on my mouse to make it learn but it doesn't work. I made the link : MIDI USB -> SL on my jack control and I wonder if I have something else to do.
I'm using linux ubuntu 9.10 Karmic.
